Straw Pillows

Our straw pillows are handwoven from natural plant fibres: cattail grass, water hyacinth and natural grass fibre. Some are filled with cattail leaves and others with buckwheat hulls; the water hyacinth pillow has a dense woven body. They are firm pillows for neck and back support, for yoga, meditation and rest, and they also work as decorative pillows on a bed or sofa.

To choose, look at the shape and the filling. A round neck roll pillow or bolster sits under the neck, lower back or knees. The cattail neck roll is about 30 cm long and 8 cm across, filled with cattail leaves, with no plastic or foam. The cattail-covered buckwheat bolster is about 38 cm long and 14 cm across. The water hyacinth neck pillow is about 42 x 14 x 9 cm. The rectangular buckwheat pillow measures 38 x 20 x 6 cm and is shaped to sit under the curve of the neck.

These are firm pillows, not soft ones. If you want a pillow that also works as decor, the buckwheat pillows are also sold as decorative pillows for a boho bedroom, sofa or office, and the cattail neck roll for a bed, sofa or meditation corner.

Each pillow is handmade, so colour and size vary slightly. Natural fibres and buckwheat hulls should stay dry, so keep the pillows away from water and damp rooms. Air the pillow regularly in a dry, shaded place and wipe the cover with a dry cloth. Our care guide has more detail.

FAQ

Are straw pillows soft?
No. They are firm pillows made for support while resting, stretching or sitting.

Can I wash a straw pillow?
No. Wipe the cover with a dry cloth (the water hyacinth pillow can also be wiped with a slightly damp cloth) and air the pillow in a dry, shaded place.

Which pillow suits yoga or meditation?
The cattail neck roll gives a little lift in seated postures, and the bolster pillows can sit under the neck, lower back or knees when you lie down.
