Summary: Measure your bare foot from heel to toe, then choose a slipper whose inside length is about 0.5 to 1 cm longer than your foot. Most StrawCrafters slippers are sized by inside length in centimetres; some use US sizes with the foot length listed. Size up if you have wide feet, are between sizes or wear socks.
Why straw slippers are sized by inside length
Shoe sizes differ between countries and brands. To avoid confusion, most of our straw slippers are sized by the length inside the slipper, in centimetres. That number is the space your foot has.
Your foot should be a little shorter than the inside length, by about 0.5 to 1 cm. This leaves room for your toes and makes the slipper easy to slip on.
How to measure your foot
- Put a sheet of paper on a hard floor and stand on it barefoot, with your weight on that foot.
- Mark the back of your heel and the tip of your longest toe.
- Measure the distance between the two marks in centimetres.
- Measure both feet and use the longer number.
Write the number down before you open a product page. You will compare it with the size table in the listing.
Sizes shown as "cm Foot"
Many listings, such as our handwoven cattail grass slippers, offer nine sizes from 22 to 30 cm. The number is the inside length, and each size fits a foot about 1 cm shorter:
| Size option | Fits foot length |
|---|---|
| 22 cm Foot | 21 to 21.5 cm |
| 23 cm Foot | 22 to 22.5 cm |
| 25 cm Foot | 24 to 24.5 cm |
| 26 cm Foot | 25 to 25.5 cm |
| 27 cm Foot | 26 to 26.5 cm |
| 28 cm Foot | 27 to 27.5 cm |
| 29 cm Foot | 28 to 28.5 cm |
| 30 cm Foot | 29 to 29.5 cm |
The 24 cm size has no foot length listed; the listings describe it only as the next size up from 23 cm, so message us before ordering if your foot is close to 23 cm. On several of these listings, the slippers are about 8 cm wide with a 3 cm thick sole.
Sizes shown as "Foot Length Up to"
Some listings, including the cattail slippers with tassels, name sizes from "Foot Length Up to 23 cm" to "Foot Length Up to 27 cm". On these listings the number is the inside length, and the recommended foot length is 1 cm shorter. For example, "Foot Length Up to 25 cm" has an inside length of 25 cm and is recommended for a 24 cm foot. Read the size notes on each listing, because the wording differs between styles.
US sizes
A few styles use US sizes and list the foot length for each one:
| US size | Foot length | Inside length |
|---|---|---|
| US 5 | 22 cm | 23 cm |
| US 6 | 23 cm | 24 cm |
| US 8 | 24 cm | 25 cm |
| US 9 | 25 cm | 26 cm |
| US 10 | 26 cm | 27 cm |
| US 11 | 27 cm | 28 cm |
| US 12 | 28 cm | 29 cm |
These listings have no US 7, and US 11 and 12 are listed only for the woven willow slippers for men. Go by the foot length in centimetres rather than your usual US shoe size.
When to choose the next size up
- Wide feet. Choose the larger size.
- Between sizes. Choose the larger size.
- Socks. If you plan to wear socks, choose the next size up.
- Snug styles. The men's willow and bulrush slippers fit snugly, so consider the larger size if you wear socks. The closed-toe tassel styles are also snug; their product pages note that they are not recommended for feet with bunions or hammertoes.
Each pair is woven by hand, so the length can vary by about 0.5 cm from the size table.
How the style affects fit
A closed-toe slipper covers the whole front of the foot. It is warmer and fits more snugly, so it suits cooler seasons. A mesh-toe slipper has an open weave over the toes for more air, and your toes are slightly visible. An open-toe slipper has an open front and is the easiest to slip on and off, which suits warm weather.
Ordering for several people
One listing, our cattail slippers in bundles, sells 2 to 12 pairs together. Choose one size in the first menu and the number of pairs in the second, then tell us the sizes you want when you order, for example "2 pairs Foot Length Up to 24 cm, 1 pair Foot Length Up to 27 cm".
When your slippers arrive
Some styles are vacuum packed for shipping and return to shape after unpacking. Straw slippers are made for indoor use, so keep them away from water and rain.
